Her father and fellow co-founder, Paul Lacerte, also spoke with reverence, saying, “Murray Sinclair’s legacy transcends words; it lives in the lives he has touched and changed forever. His work with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission shaped our understanding of Canada’s history and the steps we must take toward healing. His leadership has been a guiding light, and his memory will fuel the Moose Hide Campaign’s efforts for years to come.”

Murray Sinclair’s storied life was one of service, integrity, and tireless advocacy for Indigenous rights and social justice. His role as Chair of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission transformed public consciousness, laying the groundwork for the ongoing journey towards reconciliation with the 94 Calls to Action, which have challenged Canada to reflect and act on its history. Throughout his career, whether presiding as a judge, serving in the Senate, or standing as a national advocate for change, Murray was known for his compassion, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to justice.

As his family said in a statement, “From residential school survivors to law students, to those who sat across from him in a courtroom, he was always known as an exceptional listener who treated everyone with dignity and respect.” His passing has ignited a sacred fire on the grounds of the Manitoba legislature, symbolizing the depth of his legacy and the light he cast upon our shared path forward.

For the Moose Hide Campaign and all who seek a world free from violence and rooted in respect, Murray Sinclair remains a powerful reminder that truth is the foundation upon which reconciliation is built. His memory and his mission will continue to inspire, generation after generation.
